Who We Are
The Habitat for Humanity Homeownership Program provides a unique opportunity for hardworking people and families to build and buy their own homes.
We are Future Habitat Homeowners that applied and were selected to be a part of the Homeownership Program to build and buy our future homes.
Please note this Program Page is only for Homebuyers (those selected for our program), their family, and friends.
What We Do
We partner and work with the Homeownership program to purchase our future home by being committed to completing the program requirements, listed below.
Sweat Equity:
Sweat equity refers to the actual hands-on involvement of Habitat partner homebuyers in the construction of their own homes, as well as participation in other Habitat and community activities. Sweat equity represents a partner homebuyer’s physical and emotional investment in the mission of Habitat.
Why does Habitat require sweat equity?
- Partnership - Sweat equity provides meaningful interaction between partner homebuyers, Habitat staff, Habitat volunteers and the community.
- Pride in homeownership – Investing sweat equity hours in their home helps partner homebuyers transition to homeownership.
- Development of skills and knowledge – On the building site, partner homebuyers gain a real understanding of the construction of their home and of maintenance issues they will face after occupancy.
HomeWorks Classes:
The Habitat HomeWorks class series is designed to support homebuyers at every stage of their homeownership experience. The purpose of the program is to empower, inform and better prepare homebuyers for the new challenges, and responsibilities they will encounter with homeownership.
